Battle Trance Benefit Concert

September 9, 2016

Battle Trance presented by Free Range Asheville

New York-based tenor saxophone quartet Battle Trance is coming to Asheville to play a benefit show at the Black Mountain College Museum. They are on tour promoting their sophomore album Blade of Love, which will be released on New Amsterdam Records & NNA Tapes on August 26th. Battle Trance’s music consists of hypnotic through-composed segments that fulfill the promise of the group’s moniker by summoning cacophonies that build and release tension through trance. Their structured improvisation teems with dense layers, beautiful harmonies, and swelling atmospherics. Moments of improvisation and rigid structure coalesce fluidly throughout performances, leaving listeners questioning the degree of artistic impulse at any given moment.

This will be a benefit show with a sliding-scale entrance fee $10-$30 — all proceeds will go to Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center.
